We had a great time in Washington DC last weekend. It was a quick trip, but for our boys, it was perfect timing. We spent some time at the Museums and Zoo, and visiting with family. It was nice to see Joey for dinner one evening. He mentioned that it was the first time he's ever actually seen me pregnant. And we spent Saturday with Farrar and the lads. The highlight of the trip was the Air and Space Museum (oh! and the pool). Who woulda thunk????

The first place the boys found in the museum was the Fossil Cafe. So typical of my boys who are always hungry!!!!

The Natural History Museum. Not quite as exciting as the movie, but fun nonetheless (BTW, we did not see the IMAX movie, as I would have thrown up and it would have freaked N out)

Air and Space Museum (obviously). N wants to be and astronaut now. But he's not quite sure how he's going to build his rocket ship??? I tried to explain that NASA will do that for him, but he insists on building his own.

The Pandas were at the very top of the hill at the Zoo. One of the first exhibits we saw. At the end of the panda building there was an iron barrier (probably close to 40 lbs) blocking off an exit. N decided to pull it down on top of his foot. Blood was every where. He screamed. J panicked. Moms kept offering advice. And the Zoo staff wanted to call an ambulance and the police. By the time we calmed everyone down and walked down the hill to the end of the zoo, we found the Health Center. (which is strategically located behind and underneath another building at the bottom of about 50 stairs. Not so easy to find or get to. I had to find a staff person to give us access to the elevator. It was a bit ridiculous) The nurse cleaned him up and we were on our way. He didn't break anything, just completely knocked the nail of his big toe. Really gross. J still won't look at it or go near N when we change the bandage.

When we got home, our new roof was finished. Brandon was sick of the pink and burgundy. This was his nesting project before the babies.

Baby update

So I tried to post the DVD of my ultrasound today, but it's too big. If I had a scanner I'd post pictures. You'll just have to take my word for it- they're perfect! (Mom- I'll try to get it to you somehow. )

All is well with both babies. We are definitely having a boy and a girl. They like each other as their heads are always near each other. Hearts are strong and they each weigh about one pound right now.

Thanks for all of the prayers. Keep them coming as I would like to stay pregnant until at least the end of August.

It's officially spring in upstate NY. This our favorite tree in the neighborhood. I love it when the blossoms and fall and their yard is covered in pink.

T-ball has begun. Brandon is coaching all three on the same team. They are all really enjoying the game. But I have to say that N is a natural. It sometimes frustrates his big brother.

Guatemala

I know. I know. It's been a while since I've written on this thing. We've been a bit preoccupied with life. Anyways, Brandon got back from his trip to Guatemala on Sunday. He tells everyone that he had the time of his life. Here are some of the highlights...

Here are some typical homes that the people in the villages outside of Guatemala City live in. notice the roof is held on by cinder blocks. Walls are made of tin or dried up corn stalks.

The blue tubs next to Brandon are used for the community to wash clothes in.

Building a chicken coop for a family to be able to support themselves with a small chicken farm.

So I think I have my head out of the fog temporarily. Maybe it's the cold and lack of sun, but I am having a hard time getting anything done lately. Maybe it's Facebook. Oh well. The new year has been very busy and a total blast so far...

M's 5th birthday party. Complete with a big blow up obstacle course and Ariel cake.

M got her ears pierced!!! She was so brave.

J dressed up for the inauguration of our new president.

B took the boys and a friend to a hockey game. He loves being able to enjoy these activities with them now that they are big enough to appreciate them.

This is N every morning when he wakes up. (Unless he gets woken up, then he becomes a grumpy bear like his momma)

M lost her first tooth yesterday. We didn't even realize it was loose. Grapes actually took it out. Who would've thunk?? She wants to buy a dog with the dollar the tooth fairy gave her. I don't think so. Our current dog was close to being strangled this morning. At 4 am I heard a noise like someone trying to break into my garage. B went to check it out and it was just the dog. She was trying to chew her way out of her room , starting with the door frame. B let her outside and then realized that she had taken off. She didn't come home for another three hours. B was so angry I don't think he cared if she ever came home. At least she didn't roll in anything dead while she was out.

'Tis the season for busyness

Ok. So the last couple of days have been a whirlwind!! Here goes...

Thursday night we decided to go cut down our Christmas tree after B got off from work. It was getting dark, so we had to hurry. Once we got to the farm, we realized they were no longer selling trees. J was set on getting our tree and decorating that night, so we went to a tree lot in Elmira. I tried to explain to J that we couldn't cut our own tree this year, and I don't think he quite understood. He still thinks we bought a "fake" tree. I think he was just glad to finally have a tree and put the ornaments on. I am sure many of you reading this would have heart attack if you saw the tree that I let my children decorate this year. We had at least four ornaments break and several branches have more than three ornaments on it. It was a fun evening for everyone. And our tree couldn't be more perfect!

Friday we got about ten inches of snow overnight. It was a snow day for the kids and B did not have to work a regular day. Our neighbors got out their four-wheeler and tied a sled to the back. All the kids got a ride. Nick said it was too cold for him, so he and I stayed inside.

Now today was crazy. We got up and got the kids dressed. It's supposed to be 50 degrees on Monday, so our snow won't last. We want to make the most of it while it's here. We grabbed the neighbors and went sledding. When we first got there, the kids argued and fought over who goes first and who had to carry the sled back up the hill. By the time we left, no one said a word. Not even M!!! They were exhausted. After hot chocolate at home, we got re-dressed. J went to Karate. And then we loaded up the car to ride Sullivan's train in town. We got off the train, ate cookies in the car, and headed to the bowling alley for a Christmas party. The kids are so used to bowling on the Wii, they had a hard time really rolling that heavy ball down the alley. We did crafts and got presents from Santa. After bowling, we took the kids to our church where B and I left them!! The youth and young singles are babysitting tonight from 3-8pm!! It's the best Christmas present we've ever received.

B and I are ending our evening at our favorite wing place and we are discussing leaving the kids at church. God will watch over them, right??? jk Tomorrow is another busy day with church, a tailgate party and off to see the local hockey team get beat. It's a crazy time of year. And we are choosing to enjoy every minute of it.

Running Away

So yesterday, B and I are downstairs in the basement. The kids are playing upstairs. And we are hearing an odd conversation...

J: "Fine then, I'm leaving! I left a note for mom and dad."

M: "OK"

N: "Bye Jake. I'll miss you!"

Then the door opens and Myann and Nick continue playing. I sent B up to investigate. I hear him yelling outside, "J! Come back here! You're not old enough to run away! You have to wait until you're 18. Get in this house now!" Then he comes downstairs laughing with this note in his hands.

Translation..."Dear Mom and Dad, I am leaving. Love, J"

I asked J later on why he wanted to leave. He said it was because M and N were not playing nicely and he was tired of it!

BTW, this is not the first time J has attempted to run away. We have used other tactics to get him to come home. For example, "You're not allowed to walk in the road without a grownup and I don't feel like going with you right now."

It's been fun. B and I get a giggle out of it every time he tries. I'm keeping this note for him when he gets older. These are the moments I love being a mom.

Stuck

I hear a faint cry for help, "Mommy, I'm done pooping!" I walk in the bathroom to this scene and he says to me, "I'm stuck and my bottom is cold and wet." Notice that I did not help him immediately, but ran to get the camera first. I was thinking "blog" the whole time.

Snow

We got our first snow today. We woke up to a beautiful world in white. It's 10am now and most of it has already melted. But that's OK. The kids were so excited this morning to put on their boots and make tracks in the snow. I fear their disappointment when they get home from school and are unable to make a snowman. But it's only November. We have plenty of time for snowmen.

Everyday I ask my son what he did in school. I always get the same answer you guys probably get..., "Nothing". The other night at the dinner table, out of the blue, he starts singing this song. He says he learned it at school. He did it several times for us and loved the attention. I convinced him he needed to do it on camera. It didn't take much prompting. If you look closely you can see where he gets his hand motions mixed up because they are backwards on the screen he's watching. So stinkin' cute! (I'm not biased at all:)

No more legos

Here's Jake ship today. When he was bringing it downstairs this morning a piece fell off. When we tried to put it back on, another piece fell of, then another and another. We ended up with this. After about an hour, I got it back together, sans a few pieces that were on there before.

Oh well!! Beam me up Scottie! No, wait. That's another show.

Working hard

J recieved the "Battle Damage Darth Vader Lego Ship" for his birthday in late July. We started it, but had to put it up when we left for vacation in August. J just found it again this week. This is his first major lego project. He was much better at it than we thought he would be. And he certainly did not need our help. Every once in a while he asked us to put a piece on tighter or to show him exactly where a piece fit. Other than that, he did most of the work himslef. He is so proud. I just wish someone would tell us how to keep it from falling apart. He wants to play with it so badly and the ship seems to be very fragile.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Having an older child in the public school system is a wonderful thing! (note the sarcasm in my voice) J's education is top notch, but when it comes to the things he brings home...

It took everything I had last night to keep all three of my children from chanting this lovely song to anyone handing out candy. (And just as a side note to prove this point- Since I went to see Mama Mia last week, J is also teaching the younger ones this lovely rhyme, "Mamma Mia. Papa Pia. Sopapia. Dia____." You can fill in the blanks. Lovely.) Anyways, back to Halloween.

We went to a community party on Thursday night at a local park. But once the sun went down, the temperature dropped about twenty degrees and the kids were miserable. So we had to leave a little early. J enjoyed the Native American stories. He even won a book about Sitting Bull for answering a question correctly. And M and N liked the egg hunt with their flashlights. I was a little confused. Is this Easter or Halloween?

J and N had halloween parties and parades at their schools. M got to wear her costume all day.

Last night we started off the evening with many of the neighbors bringing goodies to our house. Aren't you supposed to be giving away the candy when you are at home?? Oh well. The familes with kids wanted to pass out treats since they would be gone for the evening. Oh Yah! More candy! (note the sarcasm) I really shouldn't complain because we actually started it on Thursday night. But we gave everyone fun flashlights and glow bracelets and socks. No candy!

After dinner, we walked through our little neighborhood. And since we are ususally the only trick-or-treaters, the neighbors let the kids take as much candy as they wanted! Thanks! Yah! More candy! (sarcasm again)

After our street, we drove to the hot spot neighborhood of our small little town to visit B's aunt, but she wasn't home. Smart woman. We hit a few houses there and headed to see B's Grandma at Bethany Village. We ended the evening at her apartment, eating our three choice pieces of candy and then wrestling on Grandma's bed to kill the sugar high. I think it's time to go home.

M was a fairy princess. N was Johnny the Joker. N had one halloween joke, "Knock. Knock. Who's there? Boo! Boo who? Don't cry. It was just a joke!" Johnny is N's favorite character from the puppet show at church (slightly ironic, don't you think?). J was the black Spider Man. We had a red Spider Man costume, but the zipper broke. The zipper man in town wanted $15 to fix it, so I just bought a new costume for $13. J liked it better anyways. He wore it all week because it makes him stronger.

Fall in New York

I love the Fall. It is truly my favorite season. And I LOVE living up north during this time of year. We went to the Little tree Apple Orchard yesterday. It is one of our favorite days of the year. We left with a half bushel of apples and tummies full of hot apple donuts. We could not have asked for a more perfect afternoon.

M and J ate so many apples that their tummies hurt. N pouted and refused to eat the apples with skin.

My Husband- The Mechanic

We took our van in for inspection and it didn't pass. We are trying to sell it, but won't be able to sell the hunk of metal for more than the junkyard will give us, unless we pass inspection. It will cost us more than the van is worth if we pay to get it fixed. So, my loving husband has decided to do the work himself. He replaced the entire left taillight assembly (which btw has been broken for two years and this is the first year they noticed!! anyways...). He went to Pick-A-Part (a local car yard) and got everything for the taillight and it was done in an afternoon. I was impressed. You should be,too.

Next he has to replace the power steering pump. Not an easy task, but a challenge that B could not turn down. He talked with friends and looked at information on-line. He bought new parts, took off the old power steering pump and put on a new one in less than a week. I was so proud!!

The van failed inspection again. The pulley on the pump was not flush by a fraction of an inch. Had we taken it anywhere else, it would have passed inspection. But my husband, the perfectionist, must do it right!!! So he decided to go back to Pick-A-Part and find a pump and pulley already attached. I dropped him off this morning and fifteen minutes later received a phone call, "You need to come get me. I'm hurt. " By the time, I had driven back to the junkyard, B had called me again. He said that he was fine and he would be done in about an hour. I know my husband well enough to know that he was probably bleeding to death underneath a car, but at the same time he was so stubborn and determined to finish this job that he would not go to the emergency room without a power steering pump in hand! He was able to talk, he'd be fine. Probably could just take a couple of ibuprofen...(just kidding, mom) :)

When I finally picked him up, he was covered in dirt, grease and blood down his face. He had a nice gash oozing blood and thick gunk under his eye. I couldn't even look at him without getting sick to my stomach. But he had the pump with pulley attached!!

After six stitches, here he is. God was certainly with him as he was yanking the bolt toward his face. He has absolutely no damage to his eye. Jake says he looks like Anakan Skywalker. I think scars on a man's face are always hot.

Bored

J decided that he wanted to learn karate this year, so here he is. He earned his first black stripe today for saying the ATA oath at least two times. He is sooooo proud!

Once again, because of J, we are being thrown into a world that we know nothing about. B tried to get him to do ice skating or swimming, but he has insisted on karate. We thought it would be difficult for him, but he seems to be doing quite well so far.

On another note, just wanted to keep everyone updated on my beautiful flowers. As you might recall, I have been known to kill any living plant that I may (or may not) come into contact with. I have received many compliments on the flowers taht the kids and I planted last spring. I was very proud. You can see their pics in my last post. Then the neighborhood girls decided to make flower soup. Oh well! At least it wasn't my fault this time.

This is the only flower left! :(

Summer is officially over

OK. So my timeline is a little off. When I was looking at pics from the first day of school, I forgot about our last evening of the summer. We got together with the neighborhood kids and all walked to "A Scoop Above", the ice cream shop around the corner.

The boys are either playing karate or having a pokemon battle, not sure which one.

We planted flowers in the spring and look what happened! They actually grew! I didn't kill them! Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the kids did all the work and I haven't touched them.

First Day of School

Today was the first day of school for M and J. N was very upset that he didn't start today. So we went on a date. His idea of a date is to rent a movie and then ride up and down the escalator at the mall. He's a cheap date and a lot of fun. I'm sure the people at the food court thought we were crazy! M enjoyed playing outside at her new school and eating spaghetti for lunch (her favorite!). J is enjoying some seniority this year since he is now allowed to play on any part of the playground during recess with no restrictions! Overall, it was a good day for everyone.

We spent the weekend up in the Adirondack Mountains at Lake George. It is a really beautiful part of New York. We enjoyed visiting with friends from Vermont and the Great Adventure Six Flags Amusement Park. J definitely has my daring side in him. He went on all the big coasters with his older cousins and loved every minute of it!

We went to Buttermilk Falls and Truman Park today. Overall, we hiked about three miles up and down the trails. We went swimming at the bottom of the falls. The kids are going to sleep good tonight!!!!

Busy, busy

We have been very busy here at Grammy and Grandpa's house...

Tuesday morning we went fishing at a little nearby pond. At first, the minnows just nibbled away at our squirmy wormies. J got bored within the first five minutes and took his book and a chair and parked himself under a shady tree. B taught N and M how to cast their line. N was the first to catch a fish. M caught the biggest fish (with absolutely no help from anyone). And J helped Grandpa reel in the most colorful fish- a blue gill.

After lunch and naps, the adults got ready for a night out. The boys went to a Braves game. The girls went to dinner and then to the Fox Theater to see "The Color Purple" (great show BTW, beautiful music). All of the kids stayed home to harass my oldest niece. Thanks A!!

Wednesday morning we got up and out the door to the Georgia Aquarium. M loved the aquarium mascot, Deepo the goldfish. N loved the penguins the best. And J liked the sharks. Everyone was on stimulation overload..."Let's go here. No. Let's go there. I want to see the turtles. I wanna see the sharks. Where's Deepo?? Wait a minute... Where's N??"
We went to "The Varsity" for lunch and filled up on hot dogs, homemade fries and onion rings.

Once again,we came home for rest time and then back out again to celebrate G.G. Ma turning in her car keys to Daddy. Dinner at Ryan's and then we wore the kids out playing in G.G. Ma's yard while the adults enjoyed the warm summer evening. I forgot how bad the bugs get around here in this humidity!

Driving

We have begun our summer vacation.

We spent the past two days in a car. The kids did great considering we were all sitting for a total of sixteen hours. We stopped in Roanoke, Virginia on Saturday night to stretch our legs and swim to our heart's content. We enjoyed movies along the way. (thank God for modern technology!!! ) We also spent a good amount of time looking for items on our scavenger hunt. You would not believe how excited my kids get to see a tall building or a gas station until you hand them a scavenger list. It got a little loud, but their joy was contagious. We discovered that there is an abundance of cows to find along a highway, but dogs are rare. After looking in every passing car for a dog, we finally had to make an unscheduled stop at a rest area. We found three!! Our hunt kept us all busy and passed the time quickly. B and I played by ourselves while the kids were napping. It took us three hours to find everything on the list. Surprisingly, when I am looking for someone talking on a cell phone I cannot find one!!

It's good to be at Mom and Dad's and the kids are enjoying the pool and finding treasures (scuppernongs and sweet gumballs) along the trail. Looking forward to fishing with Grandpa, seeing friends, and a trip to the Georgia Aquarium. I am personally looking forward to eating grits and drinking sweet tea!!! I love the South!

Birthday Boy

J turns 7 today!!

We had his party last Saturday. We had two of his friends over to spend the night. We went to our church's Family Fun Day and played games, slid down the big blow up slide and raced through the obstacle course. They won two more cakes (besides the one I bought for j's b-day) at the "cake walk" and ate popcorn, tootsie rolls and cotton candy for dinner. We went home to eat cake, play SpeedRacer on the Wii and watch movies. J and his friends were determined to stay up all night. Around 8pm, they decided that they would stay up until midnight. They fell alseep at 11pm. They were up at 6am. We had three tired little boys at church on Sunday morning. But they all had fun.

Yesterday, J lost his third tooth. I heard him crying in the bathroom around 6:30 am. I went in to check on him and he had tried to rinse the blood off of his tooth and... you guessed it! He dropped the tooth down the drain. I had to wake Daddy up to take the plumbing apart and fish out the tooth for the tooth fairy.

Today, J plans on having chocolate chip pancakes for dinner. Then we will walk to the ice cream store for dessert.

Today was N's birthday party. It wasn't easy with only two adults and four children, but no one fell in the water and everyone caught several fish. We had a blast!!

So, I have finally entered the world of blogging. I remeber when I first heard the word "blog" on the news and had to figure out what they were talking about. Am I that old?? Anyways, I have so enjoyed the blogs of my friends and family, that I decided to join them. I hope you all enjoy seeing updates of our family as well.
